For me to put together a show, it’s essentially now making like a Tumblr … there’s a democracy to curating; you can call it curating or you can call it aggregating, but that’s what everybody does now. They put things together. They gather things, they aggregate things, then they put them together and they publish them, broadcast them. There’s a good joke: there’s a couple at a party, and one says ‘what do you do?’ and the other replies, ‘I curate children’s birthday parties.’ And that’s where curation is.

South Square Gallery invites proposals from emerging artists for its summer residency. For the duration of August and September 2013, the gallery space will be offered as a live-in studio for artists to research and produce new work whilst engaging with the gallery visitors. We are particularly interested in hearing from artists who have a critically engaged practice, are keen to interact with a public audience and whose approach to making work would suit an open studio setting.

Vdrome makes available a program of exceptional artist’s films and videos that are selected due to their importance, quality and innovative strength, many of which are only shown in the context of film festivals, exhibitions or specific surveys, being therefore of very limited access.

An interesting example at the end: how an algorithmic news selection is considered to be more objective than a human selection, despite the fact that the algorithm was written by a human.
